A glorious late spring flowering shrub, but in a stylish standard form! Perfect for adding year-round interest to the garden, it makes the perfect feature plant for standing by doorways, gateways, pathways and patios. The show begins in late spring when the branches all of a sudden become tightly smothered in a frenzy of colour ruffled pink-red flowers, setting the tree on fire with colour. And being evergreen, the tree will still look just as great when flowering ends. Highly attractive to bees and beneficial pollinators, it€™s a great choice for bringing your garden to life with wildlife but also for encouraging pollinators in if you are growing fruit, vegetables and anything that will benefit from the wildlife. Also known as the New Zealand Tea Tree, closely related to the Tea Tree Oil producing plant with very similar flowers, this evergreen shrub makes a welcome addition to sunny spots in the garden and can be housed in a greenhouse or conservatory over the winter months. They tolerate drought well, and thrive on coastal areas, although may be damaged by frosts below -5C, so perhaps grow in a pot or against a warming wall.
